Sara Evans Calls Carl Edwards "Super Mean"

You know a video is going to be good when the behind-the-scenes scoop includes a trash-talking racecar driver. And that is just the case with Sara Evans' brand new, drop-dead dramatic, emotionally heavy video for her new single "Slow Me Down."

"I'm not even kidding," she told me when she stopped by the CMT offices recently. "[Carl Edwards] went ahead and said really mean things to me when we are at a bar. He was like, 'You are such an idiot, and you have no idea what you're doing.' He plays my husband. And he's super mean."

But Evans said she knew Edwards had good acting chops when he could turn on the humor in the scenes they shot in the apartment (the same one used in her "A Little Bit Stronger" video, by the way). She said he was being incredibly funny and would say random things to her to try to coax Evans' great laugh out of her.

"He said things like, 'You didn't even see that my cat has five paws,'" she said.

Evans described the video as a prequel to "Stronger," where she was actually starting to get over the man who broke her heart.

"It's a very dramatic song about this girl who knows the relationship she's in is not great," she said. "They're fighting a lot, and she is threatening to leave. She wants him to stop her."

The new song will be on Evans' new album to be released early next year. Her most recent album, Stronger was released in 2011, and she told me why she kind of slowed down the process of releasing new music.

"I can't rush a project," she said. "I just can't do it. I just think if the songs are great and it's an entire album packed full of what I think should be hit songs, then it doesn't matter how long you have to wait for it. If you rush it and you put out crap music and throw a bunch of songs on there, that would not be worth it to me. I hope that people really look forward to a new Sara Evans record."
