Kristen Bell Expects "Radical" CMT Music Awards

She'll Host the Show Solo on Wednesday (June 4)

If you want Kristen Bell to host an awards show, it may be as simple as just asking politely. With impeccable comedic skills, the star of Veronica Mars, House of Lies and Frozen will serve as the solo host for the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (June 4) in Nashville.

"You guys have always been very good to me and you invited me again," she told executive producers John Hamlin and Michael Dempsey during a Tuesday afternoon press conference at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, where show rehearsals were underway. "And I look for any excuse to come back to Nashville, especially to weasel my way into hosting this show because I find it to be the best concert I have ever been to."

After comments from the producers that they've raised the bar for show production this year, Bell quickly agreed.

"It does get upped every year," she said. "And I think the lineup that you have this year and the amount of performers, it's destined to be the best one we've ever had -- having nothing to do with my host abilities or inabilities. I think just the lineup of performers alone is going to be pretty radical."

The producers tipped off reporters that pop star Jason Derulo ("Talk Dirty") will appear on the show with Florida Georgia Line. In addition, John Legend will sing "All of Me" with Jennifer Nettles using a guitar arrangement composed by Hunter Hayes, who will also perform with them.

Meanwhile, Alan Jackson will be honored during the event in recognition of 25 years of making memorable music videos. Carrie Underwood will present him with a special award, while Kacey Musgraves and Lee Ann Womack will pay musical tribute. Hamlin also noted this will be the first time for Blake Shelton to perform on the CMT Music Awards.

Bell is one of Hollywood's hottest actresses at the moment. With a background in opera and musical theater, she says she doesn't stop to think about the live aspect of the CMT Music Awards.

"Honestly, it doesn't feel like work to me," she said. "It feels like a lot of fun. I get to work with a lot of fun comedy writers and directors, and we come up with really cool bits, which is what I like to do creatively. In truth, what I do during the show is change into a variety of fancy outfits and read a Teleprompter, so it's not the hardest job in America. And I have a front-row seat to an amazing concert, so it doesn't take a lot of convincing to get me to come back."

The 2014 CMT Music Awards will include performances by Shelton, Brantley Gilbert, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Jake Owen and Lady Antebellum.

In addition, Brett Eldredge, Cole Swindell, Dan + Shay, Danielle Bradbery, David Nail, Thomas Rhett and Tyler Farr will be performing on the Nationwide Insurance Stage.

Other presenters include Shelton, the Eli Young Band, Jason Aldean, Justin Moore, Keith Urban, Kip Moore, Lionel Richie, Sara Evans, LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts Cassadee Pope and Motley Crue's Vince Neil. Also presenting will be the cast of CMT's Party Down South and My Big Redneck Family host Tom Arnold.
