When Justin Moore answered a call from record label boss Scott Borchetta one afternoon, he never dreamed it would be about a tribute album to rock legends Motley Crue.

While his country style is admittedly traditional, Moore agreed to contribute anyway. Ultimately, he found a way to make "Home Sweet Home" fit him perfectly.

"The only way for me to go in and do this was to say, 'Hey, I gotta make it my own and do my own thing with it,'" Moore told CMT Hot 20 Countdown. "There's a lot of me in it, but there's a lot of other things that come through that maybe you haven't seen from me."

Deciding to take the track to the next level, Moore made plans to release the song as a single.

"I'll tell you what, man, it's been a blast to dive into this project," Moore said. "I called (Borchetta) back and said, 'Man, I wanna do "Home Sweet Home," but only if we can put it out as a single.' And he goes, 'Huh?' I said, 'Yeah, I love this song. I forgot how much I love this song.'

"You know, through going in to record this song, I've gotten to know the guys of Motley Crue, and I'll tell you what, it's been one of the most random things in my career but one of the most fun things I've ever done."

When it came time to shoot a video, he enlisted the rockers themselves to join in.

"We're walking down the street and we're hearing all this music," said Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx of the clip. "And then we see that (Moore's) playing. We walk in, and it's a little bit of a throwback to 'Girls, Girls, Girls,' where it's like hanging out together watching girls. But this time, we're watching Justin. But it's the same kind of camaraderie."

"And then we get up onstage," said singer Vince Neil.

Much to Neil's surprise, his band's influence seems to have spanned multiple genres and generations.

"I had no idea," the rocker admitted. "I really had no idea that country people had any idea who Motley Crue was because we're just such an L.A. band, you know? OK, we've been around 35 years, but I just didn't have any idea.

"And then last night, I was hanging around at a concert with a bunch of bands playing. People are like, 'Oh, my God, I grew up with you! Yeah, I was 10 years old and I went to the Dr. Feelgood tour with my dad.' ... So, it was like everybody has these funny stories with kind of growing up with Motley Crue, and they're country people.

"I'm still kind of in shock, but I'm actually in awe, too," Neil concluded. "Because I so respect these artists ... and to kind of be welcomed into the community, it's pretty bad ass."
