Newcomer Mickey Guyton’s Story Behind the Song

Texas Native Off to Strong Start With “Better Than You Left Me”

Newcomer Mickey Guyton is off to a strong start with her debut single, “Better Than You Left Me.”

With no less than 79 radio stations adding it to their playlists during its first week of release, the track has already climbed to No. 45 on Billboard’s country airplay chart. If that bit of trivia doesn’t impress you, keep in mind it routinely takes six months or longer for a country single to crack the Top 10.

Guyton, a Texas native, co-wrote “Better Than You Left Me” with Nathan Chapman, Jennifer Hanson and Jenn Schott. As a singer, Hanson enjoyed chart success in 2002 with “Beautiful Goodbye.”

The song’s deals with Guyton’s past relationship, and she has personally annotated the lyrics for Genius.com.
