Jamie Lynn Spears' Daughter Hospitalized Following ATV Accident

Singer-Songwriter Tried to Rescue 8-Year-Old Maddie After Vehicle Ran Into Pond

Thoughts and prayers from the country music community are with Jamie Lynn Spears and her family. An ATV accident on the family's property near Fluker, Louisiana, has left her 8-year-old daughter Maddie hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

According to a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Department report obtained by People, Maddie drove the vehicle into a pond shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 5) in full view of Spears and husband Jamie Watson, who is Maddie’s stepfather.

Maddie was apparently steering the vehicle to avoid running over a nearby drainage ditch. In doing so, she overcorrected, causing the ATV to enter the pond. Both the vehicle and Maddie were instantly submerged.

“Within seconds, the child’s mother, stepfather and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail,” the report says. “The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting. Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.”

Spears is a member of CMT’s Next Women of Country program. Her first hit as a songwriter came in 2016 as the co-writer of Jana Kramer’s “I Got the Boy.” Siblings Britney Spears and brother Bryan were on hand to help welcome their younger sister onstage for her Grand Ole Opry debut that March. Her latest country single “Sleepover” was released in June.
