The Band Perry and the Who’s Roger Daltrey have confirmed their involvement in a new partnership with the Vanderbilt medical system in Nashville as part of Teen Cancer America.

The announcement was made prior to the Who’s Monday night (May 11) concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Daltrey and bandmate Pete Townshend have been patrons of Teenage Cancer Trust in the United Kingdom more than 20 years. The charity organization created Teen Cancer America in 2012.

In addition to The Band Perry being named ambassadors for Teen Cancer America, Daltrey announced plans to create a teen cancer wing to be located at Vanderbilt University Medical Center or Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. The center would offer specialized care and other programs for teenagers battling the disease.

"They don't ask for much," Daltrey said at the press conference. “It's amazing that here we are in 2015, and no one had noticed until recently that this age group … they're too old to be children and they're too young to be adults. They are completely isolated in the hospital system."

“Our father is a pediatrician,” Kimberly Perry said. “Our whole lives, the three of us have really gotten to have an inside look into the way medical systems work and how, typically, the focus really is on young children. And that makes sense because … the young children struggling with these diseases going through treatment, they’re extremely scared.

"A lot of the hospitals will have a lot of cartoon characters just to keep them strong and encouraged while going through treatment. But we also have noticed that teens and young adults still struggle with the same fears and anxieties. That’s why we were so excited TCA has a specific focus on caring to their needs.”
