George Strait Reveals His Secret To Longevity And Teases New Album: “Another One Soon”

George Strait talks relationship with Dean Dillon and touring with Chris Stapleton this upcoming spring.

New music from country icon George Strait is on the horizon.

On the heels of his latest release “Willy The Wandering Gypsy And Me,” the Texas troubadour sat down with online publication Cowboys & Indians to reveal his secret to longevity and what he has learned while navigating the country landscape for nearly four decades.

Since dropping his major label debut “Unwound” in 1981, he has recognized that the key to success is believing in your own artistry and never taking your eye off the ball.

“Staying focused and believing that what you’re doing is good is important; you have to believe in yourself,” Strait told the outlet. “I always felt like I knew what worked for me and what didn’t. I just always knew that I wanted a career like Merle Haggard or George Jones. I wanted to still be relevant when I got older. Those guys are still relevant and always will be in my book,” he stressed.

Strait remained humble, but his long-running list of accolades speaks volumes and proves that his legacy will live on for generations to come. The seasoned singer-songwriter currently holds the most CMA wins with 22 titles under his belt. His 30-album catalog includes some of the biggest hits in the genre, including – “Check Yes or No,” “Amarillo By Morning,” “Carrying Your Love With Me,” “Write This Down,” and many more. While pulling from honky-tonk traditions and his deep-rooted love for western swing, the Country Music Hall of Famer became a chart-topping regular.

When asked if he would write a memoir one day about his prosperous career, Strait quickly confessed that a documentary has been on his mind instead.

“I have given serious thought to a documentary,” the legend declared. “I tend to procrastinate these days. So right now, a thought is all it is. I have not thought about a movie though.”

Although a biopic might not be in the near future, he confirmed that a new album is in the works.

“I like making records and plan on doing one soon,” Strait confessed. “I’m narrowing down my song choices now. I’ve always said, 'I’m a melody guy.' A great melody can sell a song the best. A great lyric with a lousy melody maybe not so much, but a great lyric along with a great melody is obviously what you’re looking to create,” he pointed out.

Strait said his songwriting approach and creative mindset sparked a friendly relationship with award-winning artist, Dean Dillon.

“That’s why I’ve had such a great relationship with Dean Dillon. I think he’s the best melody guy in the business. His lyrics are great as well. So, there you go. There is no specific message or mood that I’ll be shooting for. I just want to put together a bunch of good songs that stand out individually.”

The hitmaker has yet to declare if Dillon would have a hand cultivating his new record, but he shared that his son Bubba would have multiple credits on the tracklist.

“It’s been great to see Bubba get into songwriting, guitar, and performing,” he shared with Cowboys & Indians. I love writing with him, and we’ll have some new things for the next record.”

Until fans receive the highly anticipated collection, he’s looking forward to hitting the road with Chris Stapleton and GRAMMY Award-winning quartette Little Big Town in the spring for a seven-stop stadium tour.

“I do love playing live shows. There’s nothing like it, and words can’t describe the feeling you get playing for a big audience,” he shared. “I’ve got great fans, and I count my blessings that I’m still able to do that. I’m going to do some stadiums with Chris Stapleton this year, and I can’t wait for that. I love doing shows with Chris. He’s such a huge talent and a really genuine, down-to-earth person.”

The country crooner will return to the road in May of 2023 and wrap in early August in Sunny Florida at the Raymond James Stadium. For tickets and upcoming appearances, visit georgestrait.com.
