Kelsea Ballerini Hit By Object During Show

The incident is one of several recently where artists are struck by items that fans throw at the stage.

Kelsea Ballerini's performance at Outlaw Field in Boise, Idaho, turned into a game of dodgeball of sorts last night ā€“ and Ballerini lost.

The East Tennessee native was hit in the face by an object thrown from the crowd while she was singing.

Video shows that Ballerini jerked backward and put her hand over her eye when struck. Her violin player came to her aid, and the two had a brief conversation before Ballerini left the stage.

When she returned, she'd changed clothes and had a message for the crowd: "Don't throw things."

"Can we just talk about what happened?" she said. "All I care about is keeping everyone safe. If you ever don't feel safe, please let someone around you know. There's security everywhere tonight. If anyone's pushing too much or you just have that gut feeling, just always flag it."

Ballerini said there were children in attendance, and she wanted shows of hers ā€“ and every artist ā€“ to be a safe place for everyone. She asked the crowd to help her make sure that was the case.

The crowd cheered in response.

Ballerini is in the midst of her headlining Heartfirst Tour. The incident is the third in a string of recent situations where fans have thrown things and hit an artist mid-concert. Earlier this month, someone threw a cell phone and hit Bebe Rexha in the face during a show. The force of the blow knocked Rexha to the ground, and she had to receive stitches near her eyebrow.

People reported Nicolas Malvagna, 27, of Manalapan, New Jersey, is accused of throwing the phone. The outlet said he was arrested at the venue and charged with assault for using his cell phone as a weapon.

Police confirmed to People Rexha was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Earlier this week, multiple outlets reported that someone threw their mother's ashes at Pink during her headlining set at the British Summer Time festival.

A video on Twitter showed the singer holding up a bag of cremated human remains and asking: "Is this your mom?"

She then said: "I don't know how I feel about this," before setting the asked on the side of the stage.

While Ballerini was protective of herself and her crowd in Idaho this week, it's a practice for her at every show. She's constantly watching for problems in her audience. At a show earlier this year in London, Ballerini noticed fans looking like they were about to pass out in the audience. Some of them had waited for more than 12 hours to get into the show at Shepherd's Bush. She asked the venue multiple times throughout her set to distribute water to fans in attendance.

Ballerini's Heartfirst Tour concludes this weekend in Arizona.
