Jon Pardi Says He Was Pre-Diabetic and "Retired" From Drinking

Jon Pardi has been sober for 112 days, says: "I was really getting to the point where every picture, every video, I was so unhappy with myself. I (knew) I needed to take a break.”

Jon Pardi won’t be celebrating the holidays with egg nog this year.

Pardi recently visited Amazon’s Country Heat Weekly’s podcast with Kelly Sutton and Amber Anderson to chat about his new Christmas album “Merry Christmas From Jon Pardi” and shared that he has quit drinking.

“I’ve been 112 days sober,” said the new dad and Opry member. “I was pre-diabetic, and I was like, ‘I’ve gotta stop.’”

Pardi won’t say he’s given up alcohol forever but is calling himself “retired” from drinking.

“That doesn’t mean I can’t come out of retirement, but for right now, it’s been great,” he said. “The weight just fell off my face. I was really getting to the point where every picture, every video, I was so unhappy with myself. I (knew) I needed to take a break.”

The “Your Heart Or Mine” singer said he just did a photo shoot and was so confident he was hamming it up for the camera.

“I was like, ‘Damn, I look good,’” he said. “Take that, Titos.”

Joking aside, Pardi said that quitting drinking is a great way to lose weight if someone is trying to drop a few pounds. However, it does come with unexpected challenges.

“You get the sugar cravings,” he said. “Let me tell you, I love me some ice cream. I’m like, ‘I’m not drinking. I better get this Twix candy bar ice cream.”

“Merry Christmas From Jon Pardi” is out now and includes 12 songs that Pardi co-produced with Bart Butler and Ryan Gore. Tracks include classics “Please Come Home for Christmas” and “All I Want for Christmas is You,” along with originals “Beer For Santa,” “400 Horsepower Sleigh,” “Merry Christmas from the Keys,” and more.

Pardi will share his new holiday music on “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” that will air LIVE Sunday, Dec. 31 (7:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT, 10:30 PM-1:05 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and stream on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs)*.
