Tim McGraw Narrates 'Shaq & Dale' Documentary
He’s already proven his singing and acting chops, but soon we will see … or rather hear, Tim McGraw in a whole new way.
ESPN Films has announced that Louisiana native McGraw will narrate a new documentary about NBA great Shaquille O’Neal and his former Louisiana State University (LSU) basketball coach Dale Brown. The film, entitled Shaq & Dale, highlights the men’s friendship both on and off the court.
“I hope you didn’t come all this way expecting to hear a story just about basketball,” says McGraw in the film’s trailer. “About a team that couldn’t quite win the way everyone expected them to. I hope you didn’t settle in just to remember what it looked like when the player, bigger and better than all the others, ruled college basketball. And I hope you don’t think that just because one is white, and the other’s black … one’s a little younger, and one is a little older … one was a coach, and the other was a player … that two men couldn’t become very best of friends.”
ESPN anchor-turned-director Hannah Storm shared a behind-the-scenes photo with McGraw during his vocal recording session for the documentary.
The “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools” singer and devoted LSU fan is no stranger to sports-themed projects, having starred in the football-centric films Friday Night Lights and The Blind Side.
The ESPN film is one of four new documentaries in the SEC Storied franchise which focuses on people, teams, moments and events that tell the ongoing story of the Southeastern Conference.
Shaq & Dale will air April 13 at 9 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
