"AGT" Finalist Drake Milligan Named "Elvis of Country," Readies New Single

Nashville newcomer Drake Milligan will blow your mind with his Elvis Presley-like charm – WATCH!

Drake Milligan may not ring a bell to some, but Howie Mandel dubbed him the "Elvis of Country."

Since the season premiere of "America's Got Talent," the Texas native has been winning over the panel of distinguished judges – Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Mandel with his country twang and King of Rock And Roll moves. Instead of covering a classic, the risk-taker auditioned last month with an original titled, "Sounds Like Something I'd Do."

With his full-set band backing his contagious vocals, he delivered the up-tempo love song. As his fiddle player plucked at his strings, Milligan displayed the spit-fire lyrics he penned alongside Brett Beavers and Terry McBride. His way with words instantly resonated with the boisterous audience, but his Elvis-like charm brought them to their feet.

"I never had a reason, girl | To go 'round lookin' for a fire to walk through |  It ain't like me to want somebody | Rearrangin' all my want-to's |  I ain't the kind to settle down |  And let myself get wrapped around | Somebody's finger, but if I had you |  Baby, sounds like somethin' I'd do," Milligan sings.

Milligan's performance was brought to the next level with his hip-swiveling dance moves inspired by his primary musical influence – Elvis Presley

"That's an original, right?" asked Mandel. "I think that songs is a hit. I think you're a hit. You're like the new Elvis of Country. I think you're gonna break out from this particular song, this particular moment. On this particular night," the critically acclaimed comedian pointed out.

Following the jaw-dropping act, "Sounds Like Something I'd Do" soared to the top of the country charts. The breakout star explained that he was seven years old when he was first introduced to the legend and was fascinated by his superstar demeanor. An Elvis impersonator at a restaurant encouraged him to pick up music.

"I was out eating with my family, and there was an Elvis impersonator at the restaurant. I was enthralled," Milligan shared. "I think that's where I decided I wanted to be like Elvis. Well, it was cute at first. I'd go put on the jumpsuits. I was dying my hair black, but it probably wasn't until one of the first times I got on stage and sang some of my old songs. I figured, man, this is something I can do. I can pave my own way."

Milligan broke into the entertainment industry as an Elvis tribute artist, while also playing traditional country songs. After years of studying the icon's mannerisms and crafting his contagious sound, he scored the role of Elvis on the CMT show, "Sun Records." Before the Nashville-based artist appeared on "AGT," the newcomer released his 2021 self-titled EP and has been touring the country. However, the hit television show has catapulted him into the limelight and elevated his artistry in more than one way.

"The crowd there at 'AGT' has been wonderful and so responsive, and then on top of that, the people at home watching and sending my music to the top of the charts," shared the singer to FOX News. "People are showing up to shows, and they're packing it out. They're singing along to all the songs."

Milligan and his band are heading to the finals and will compete for the grand title on September 19. While fighting for the $1 million cash prize and a Las Vegas residency, he has built a devoted community and turned ordinary folks into country music fans.

"A lot of the responses I've gotten from 'America's Got Talent' is 'I'm not a country music fan, but I love your performances and your voice, and I'm a country music fan now,' which I think is amazing," he told the publication. "As somebody who just so passionately loves country music, to be able to bring people in the genre has been a really special thing," he added.

Five days before the season 17 finale, Milligan will drop his debut album "Dallas/ Fort Worth." The highly anticipated collection will pay homage to his southern upbringing and deep love for the honky tonk genre.

"I just want to keep staying true to myself and making music that I think people want to hear and people need to hear and telling stories," the promising new artist stressed. "Country music has been such a big part of my life, it helps me get through tough times, or it's just a great way to have fun on a Saturday night. It's such a big part of my life, and I just want to hopefully be a part of people's lives too and keep making music that people can use in their life."

After the release of "Dallas/ Fort Worth," Milligan is expected to hit the road. The country crooner with a bright future ahead, will begin his trek in Los Angeles and will wrap in late September. For upcoming appearances, visit drakemilligan.com
