Did they or didn't they lip-sync during the ACM Fan Jam on Sunday night (April 6)? That's the question a lot of people have been asking after Rascal Flatts' really, really tight -- maybe too tight -- performance of their new hit single "Rewind" during the live telecast of the Academy of Country Music Awards.

As it turns out, they did not sing live. But before we pass judgment on Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, let's hear them out.

Not only did the band admit to the deed, they offered up a pretty solid and understandable explanation.

Rascal Flatts' official Twitter page sent out a post Monday night of a photo that appeared to be a screen grab of a note someone had typed on a cellphone addressing the performance.

"After having performed several shows earlier in the week, Gary lost his voice," the note stated. "So instead of canceling our commitment to do the show, we made a last-minute decision to lip-sync. We've never done it before, and we're obviously not very good at it. We look forward to singing live again in the very near future!"

It's a disappointment for the artists and fans alike when uncontrollable things like this happen. But this was a live, nationally-televised awards show. In situations like this, there are no do-overs, no "rewinds." It's not like a normal tour date on the road where you can profusely apologize to the audience and reschedule when your voice is back in action.

So what were the guys to do? I mean that as an actual question because, Lord knows, I've been contemplating it, and I personally don't know what I would have done if I were in their boots.
