The prestigious hosting job on Saturday Night Live has been filled with some of the biggest names in entertainment through the years, and this weekend, Blake Shelton will become part of the legendary list.
The gig comes as a great honor for anyone but especially for the handful of country artists who have been offered the role.
“I’m ready,” Shelton told CMT Hot 20 Countdown this week during rehearsals for the show. “I mean, if there’s one thing that you know about me -- and hopefully people watching at home -- it’s I am absolutely comfortable with making a complete ass out of myself. I’m a natural at that, and so if that’s what it takes to be good here at Saturday Night Live, then I think I’m ready.”
Shelton says his job as a judge on The Voice has led some people to suggest he would make a great addition to the long-running comedy series, but he never expected to actually be a part of the skits or do a monologue.
“I always had in the back of my mind that it would be cool to perform here and sing,” he admitted. “That’s what I do! But this other stuff isn’t what I do, so I don’t know.”
While the superstar may doubt his comic ability, fans know they can expect a side-splitting end to their Saturday night.
And though the highly-anticipated monologue is still being kept under wraps, Shelton did give Hot 20 some insight on how far is too far out of his comfort zone. Apparently there are some things the singer just won’t do.
