Chet Atkins is coming to CMT this weekend when the network premieres “WE STILL CAN’T SAY GOOD BYE – “The Making of A Musicians’ Tribute to Chet Atkins and his Legacy Remembered.” Beginning at 9 p.m. CT Friday (April 19), the tribute will air exclusively on CMT for three months.

The one-hour documentary details the making of Atkins’ tribute album, also called “WE STILL CAN’T SAY GOOD BYE” that came out April 19. The album and show features 22 artists from different genres including Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, Tommy Emmanuel C.G.P., Ricky Skaggs, James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley, Sierra Hull and more.

“The first day of filming was marked by Tommy Emmanuel's recording of ‘Mr. Guitar,’” said Kathryn Russ, Producer. “However, it was his intimate stories that truly captured the essence of the man they sought to honor.”

Russ said Atkins was more than a producer, studio head and guitarist. He explained he was also a humble, caring mentor who profoundly impacted musicians.

“Everyone interviewed for the project, including Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and others, shared humorous and heartfelt stories,” Russ continued. “Grammy-winning producer Carl Jackson helmed the tribute album, which anchored our narrative. As a producer, ‘Chet, We Still Can’t Say Good Bye’ meant more to me than mere documentation; it was a labor of love and a testament to the enduring legacy of the man known as Mr. Guitar.”

Atkins is known as the most recorded solo musician in music history. His path led him from poverty in Appalachia to 14 Grammy Awards and membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Atkins would have turned 100 on June 20.
