Lindsay Ell Reveals She's Suffered With An Undiagnosed Eating Disorder for Years

Lindsay Ell: "I always told myself that an eating disorder would look like ‘that kind of body’ and that there’s no way I could have one..."

Country singer Lindsay Ell is 33 years old and just learned she’s had an eating disorder for “the better part of 20 years.”

Ell made the revelation on her Instagram account after chatting about her recent diagnosis on @offthevinepodcast. She said she was coming to terms with it and had been living in denial.

“I always told myself that an eating disorder would look like ‘that kind of body’ and that there’s no way I could have one because I didn’t look like that,” she wrote. “I told myself that the way I was living was fine because it was just part of my career…”

Ell didn’t go into detail about the way she was living but said that it got to the point where she felt like it was taking over her life. She said she no longer had control over what she ate or didn’t eat “in the shadows.”

“I got really good at pretending that everything was ok out in public, but at home I was shriveling up,” she said.

She explained that she knows eating disorders are indicators for the need to do “deeper work” and that she intends to share her journey through recovery with fans.

“I have no idea of what that fully looks like, but I’m figuring it out day by day,” she wrote.

Ell wants to share her story because she knows hearing other people’s experiences inspire her to “be a better person.”

“I hope in sharing this and my journey as I go along it, will inspire you to be honest with yourself - with what you’re feeling and what you’re going through,” she said. “Regardless of what that may be. Sometimes it’s so easy to take care of everyone else but yourself. Hopefully you won’t need to live 20 years feeling something that you never deal with.”

She added: “So, this is where I’m at. With my hand on my heart… 🤍 And hopefully I can take you along the road as I learn.”

Ell has been working on “Canada’s Got Talent,” the Canadian version of “America’s Got Talent” as a member of the cast. And, her Brantley Gilbert duet “What Happens in a Small Town” recently went platinum.
