2023 CMT Music Awards: Kane and Katelyn Brown Put Their Love In The Spotlight with Emotional "Thank God"

Kane Brown says he wants to do more duets with his wife so she can spend more time with him on stage.

When Kane Brown and his wife Katelyn charted a No. 1 song with their first duet, "Thank God," it was a dream come true for the 2023 CM Music Awards host. The opportunity to perform the love song on the show together was the icing on the cake.

"It means the world to me," Brown said before their performance. "I mean, she sings every night. We have a big setup in our home, and she's always singing. Honestly, she loves singing more than I do. For me to just be able to give her this opportunity and her come out, and hopefully, us have more songs in the future, is really cool."

The pair performed their hit "Thank God" on the outdoor stage on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin in front of thousands of adoring fans.

Katelyn, who is also a singer but spends much of her time as a stay-at-home mom, was tentative before taking the stage.

"I don't know what I'm doing," she said.

"You're doing great," Kane reassured her. "You just sing and look pretty. You make me look good."

Katelyn entered the spotlight from the back of the stage, and the crowd roared when they saw her. The couple held hands and sang to each other before turning to face the audience and sharing a kiss at the end.

They coordinated their outfits, wearing head-to-toe black. Kane accessorized with layered necklaces, which he said backstage were his favorite part. And Katelyn wore long black gloves that covered her elbows.

"Our kids always watch me on TV and watch our music videos," Kane said. "For them to also be able to see both of us ... our three year old already knows every single word to 'Thank God.' She surprised us the other day by singing it by herself with no music. Those are the cool moments that I love being a dad."

While Kane admits that his wife struggles with being away from their daughters while on tour, he said he hopes to be able to do more duets with her and expand her portion of the show. He said fans cheer more loudly for her than any other part of his concerts, and her stage time is over too fast. He thinks his fans would love to see more of his wife and that they could bring the whole family on the road if that happened.

"She loves this because there's no pressure," he said. "She doesn't have to do it, but she can do it, and she loves it. We'll eventually get more songs together and then she'll be able to come out. The goal is for her to be able to be on stage with me for like, at least 15 to 20 minutes. That would be cool."

Kane said he was excited for the couple's performance on the 2023 CMT Music Awards, but was also anxious to see Blake Shelton and Darius Rucker, who will perform with him at Fenway Park on June 23.

"When they told me we were going to the baseball park, I said, 'I don't know if we'll be able to do it,'" Brown admitted. "I thought we would stop at maybe 12,000 or 13,000 tickets. And then when they told me we were at 30,000 within a week. I was like, 'Dang, that's amazing.'"
