Zac Brown Band Canceled Canadian Show After Being Denied Entry

Zac Brown: "Each time we’ve come to Canada, we have been at the mercy of a single border agent who decides who is allowed in to work."

Zac Brown Band's Canadian fans were left holding their tickets over the weekend when one of the group's crew members was denied entrance into the country for the band's Vancouver show.

Brown said the band has a no man left behind policy, and the group wasn't willing to cross the border without every team member.

"We're sorry to announce that we won't be able to perform in Vancouver tonight," Brown wrote over the weekend. "Our Canadian fans are incredible, and we would love nothing more than to share an evening of music together."

The post said that some of their crew members had charges on their records from more than 10 years ago that had since been removed, implying that was the reason the person was barred from entering the country. The decision is baffling to Brown as the group has regularly performed in Canada for the last decade, including two shows in 2022.

"Each time we've come to Canada, we have been at the mercy of a single border agent who decides who is allowed in to work, and unfortunately, not everyone was able to make it in the country," he wrote. "We are a family, a tribe. We stick together and support each other, and we never leave anyone behind. As a band who prides themselves on showing up with excitement and professionalism, we will always play where we are welcome and appreciated, and we're so sorry we can't be there tonight."

The Facebook post received 37,000 likes and more than 4,500 comments, most in support of Brown's decision to stay on the U.S. side of the border.

"Brown vs Board of Immigration," wrote Martin Sexton. "Hats off to you Zac for standing your ground at the Canadian border and staying unified as a family. Heroic."

Amy Watkins Ward wrote: "Wow, proud to be an American and a ZBB fan! I've been to 5+ concerts and they've all been excellent! So sorry this happened. Can't wait to see you again!"

"They paid for their crimes yet still being punished. Unreal.... great job uniting," Taylor Barker Music said. "That's family right there."

Blaine Wilkes added: "That is the most gracious middle finger I have ever read. Great professionalism and show of restraint!"

The rest of the weekend's shows in Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, went off without a hitch and left fans raving on social media about the performances while still lamenting Canada's border policy.

"Can't wait to have you boys back to Vancouver sometime after they fire the border clown who shut you guys down this time," andrew25evans. "Don't hold it against us 🇨🇦."

Brown's next show is at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Nov. 4. See the band's remaining tour dates for the year here
