Joey Feek Asks, "How Can That Be?"

Joey + Rory Earn a Grammy Nomination

When Joey and Rory Feek decided to remake a Townes Van Zandt song from 1972, I doubt they ever thought it would come to this.

"Woke my bride up this morning with a baby in my arms and the news that our version of 'If I Needed You' was nominated for a Grammy," Rory wrote on the husband/wife duo's Facebook page on Monday (Dec. 7). "As her excitement and tears flowed into mine, she said, 'How can that be?' ....The song received no radio airplay... no press ... no critical acclaim ... and the only music video we made for it was to celebrate the day our little Indiana was born. God is so good,"

"If I Needed You" is just one of the songs Joey + Rory recorded for their 2014 album, Country Classics: A Tapestry of Our Musical Heritage. Its Grammy nomination is in the best country duo/group performance category, along with Brothers Osborne's "Stay a Little Longer," Charles Kelley, Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay's "The Driver," Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" and Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe's "Lonely Tonight."

Joey Feek is in hospice care now, after fighting cervical cancer for more than a year.

In one of his recent blogs about her, Rory talks about honoring his wife now and forever.

"She wants to be remembered as a singer of songs. A devoted wife. A loving mother," he wrote. "Not a cancer patient."
