Jessie James Decker Talks "Dancing With The Stars" And New Track "Grow Young With You"

Jessie James Decker said she turned to the country community before kicking off her "DWTS" journey.

Jessie James Decker has proved that she's more than a country music star, but also a dancer with wicked moves.

The singer-songwriter has become a front runner on the hit competition show "Dancing With The Stars" after her spooky "Hocus Pocus"-inspired routine with partner Alan Bersten. With their eye on the mirror ball, the two dominated the legendary floor with the jive to "One Way or Another." To tackle the jaw-dropping act, Decker was turned into a spinning image of Sarah Jessica Parker's character, while Bersten performed as her zombie boyfriend.

As the stage overflows with eerie smoke, Bersten and Decker transported viewers to Salem, Massachusetts. Their attention-grabbing acting sent shivers down the spine, while their impressive partner stunts and head-whipping turns stopped you dead in your tracks.

While every pair brought the heat and a touch of magic to Disney + Night, the "Should Have Known Better" artist shocked the pristine panel of judges – Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba with fast-footwork choreography. The critics and fans watching from home were pleasantly surprised by the number, leaving them with a whopping 31 out of 40.

"You were so good, the leg action was incredible. You nailed every moment," praised Inaba. "What an improvement," Goodman pointed out. "I'm just so proud of you, honestly. You sold that – you played the part, you look the part, and you danced the part," gushed Hough.

In the midst of the draining and rigorous rehearsals, the 34-year-old pumped her breaks to speak with CMT about the challenging routine.

"This dance is very very hard. It's probably the hardest dance out of all of them," Decker stressed. "It's the jive. So, there are so many steps, and it's quick. I'm struggling with pointed toes, and straight legs. It's crazy speed, and this dance has no room for error. If you get thrown off…forget it. So, it has been a little stressful," she added.

Decker's experience in Season 31 has been far from easy. The mother of three has been splitting her time between Nashville and Los Angeles, juggling her home life and flourishing music career. The vocalist said that the opportunity has been "overwhelming," but "amazing" all at the same time.

"It's an amazing experience to be able to do this show. It's something that I've always thought about doing, but I never really pulled the trigger, and now I'm here. I cannot believe I'm doing this show," Decker exclusively shared. "It's a lot of pressure and not a lot of sleep going on. But here's the thing, It's a blip in time. This will be the one time  I  get to be on 'DWTS' and it's crazy, and I am grateful."

Before she embarked on the rollercoaster-like journey, she reached out to members of the country community who had previously starred in the show. Hitmaker Jimmie Allen, Jana Kramer, and on-air personality Bobby Bones provided Decker with valuable guidance before taking the ballroom.

"I talked to Jimmie, Bobby, and Jana. They've all been super supportive, and it's just been helpful to have my Nashville locals give me some advice on the show. It's been really helpful, and I felt mentally prepared to know what to expect," she shared.

The fast-rising artist said that Kramer sent her a complete rundown on how she tackled the dance battle and the internal emotions she faced during the process. Decker revealed that she took a screenshot of the text message and refers back to it when feeling doubtful.

"Mondays, you're going to feel amazing because the show goes live, and you're going to be on this high. Tuesdays are going to be really hard, and you're going to be exhausted," she read aloud. "Wednesday, you will have the urge to run away, because it's going to be overwhelming learning the entire dance."

She continued to mention that Bersten has been a reliable partner, pushing her to "trust the process." Although the songstress does not have a dance background, she clarified that Bersten has served as a great teacher and friend.

"Whenever I get the judge's scores and comments, it does confuse me because I don't know anything about dance. It's hard and disheartening, so all I can do is trust my partner," she uttered. "I need him [Bersten], and he has been such a tremendous support system through this whole thing. He is so fun and silly. The kids love him. Alan and Eric also "bro down" together. So, it's been really fun just outside of dance."

When Decker was not perfecting her skills and tirelessly working in the studio, she released a new song, "Grow Young With You." Not only does the love song lyrically embody her picture-perfect relationship with her former NFL athlete husband, but it sonically displays her contagious sound and superstar potential.

The Emily Weisband and Alysa Vanderheym – penned track follows her critically acclaimed "The Woman I've Become" EP. The chart-topping artist said that she had "Grow Young With You" in her back pocket for quite some time, but was waiting for the best moment to pull it out.

"I've had this one for a  while, and I loved it instantly," she shared, full of enthusiasm. "I just felt like it related to my life. I feel like Eric, and I continue to grow young together. He's the love of my life, and I fall more in love with him every day. We keep that playful, fun, young love alive."

Decker said that her other half imminently resonated with the lyrics and wanted her to cut it.

"He loved it. It was one of his favorites," she revealed. "I always have these songs that are pitched to me, or I cut. I put them in a Dropbox to get an idea of how it flows together. Eric always wants that link, so he can listen and give me his thoughts. He loves the melody, the beat, the production of it, and of course, the lyrics."

Decker exclusively told CMT that "Grow Young With You" is a significant starting point for more new music. She declared that a career-altering collaboration with a country powerhouse is on the horizon. As music fans eagerly wait for Decker to reveal the name, they can catch her on "DWTS" every Monday at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.
