Dan Smyers and Wife, Abby, Help Open Nashville Branch of Animal Rescue Group Wags & Walks

Abby Smyers is on the development committee at Wags & Walks.

Dan + Shay are gearing up to release their new studio album on September 15. Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney have been open about their vulnerable journey through the project and are convinced it’s the strongest work of the duo’s career.

While Smyers co-produced the album along with Scott Hendricks, Smyers’ wife Abby was working on her own project.

The Smyers are dedicated to rescuing dogs and have several have come to live at their house. Abby is heavily involved in the rescue group Wags & Walks in Nashville, and this weekend Wags & Walks is opening a rescue facility for their organization.

The country couple sponsored a room where potential adopters could spend time with the animals.

“My heart could explode typing this: The @wagsandwalksnashville Adoption Center is officially opening this weekend + we got to share a little sneak peek last week with some very special donors, sponsors and friends!” Abby, who is on the rescue’s development committee, shared on social media. “I am absolutely beaming with pride over what @kathrynhurley_ and the incredible Wags team have accomplished and the impact that this special place will have on our community.”

Abby shared a picture of herself and Smyers embracing with broad smiles in a room with mint green walls and a full-wall mural of their precious pups. A basket of toys is on a bench, and the glass door reads “sponsored by Dan & Abby Smyers.”

Some of their famous friends even stopped by for a visit. Tyler Hubbard’s wife, Hayley, is pictured in the building cuddling a white puppy with a black patch over its eye with her son standing nearby.

“Thank you to everyone who has believed in this mission and this space,” Abby wrote. “We are going to save all the dogs!!!! 🩵🐶 (Dan + I are so proud to have sponsored a part of the center and have our sweet creatures honored where so many pups will meet their forever families.)”

Smyers turned to the comments section to express his delight.

“So proud of you!” he wrote. “This is amazing!”

On Friday, Abby posted videos in her stories of the Wags & Walks team pulling dogs from animal shelters and transporting them to the rescue's new building to find families.

“We saved eight dogs on Tuesday,” she wrote. “This new facility has already allowed us to increase our impact.”

The Music City location of Wags & Walks is in Hermitage, Tennessee. For more information, visit here.
