Megan Moroney Releases Video for Viral Hit "Tennessee Orange," Includes Home Movies In Vulnerable Clip

A Tennessee man is responsible for helping get Moroney to the top of streaming charts, but it isn't the one you might think.

Megan Moroney released her streaming monster "Tennessee Orange" last year. The vulnerable, provocative ballad prompted country music fans to gossip about which Tennessee fan got the Georgia native and unabashed Bulldogs fan to sport the University of Tennessee's unmistakable bright orange.

She's confirmed speculation to an extent in that the shirt was Morgan Wallen's but said it's "just a shirt."

Now a video is out for the song that was recently the No. 1 weekly streamed song by a solo female artist and has amassed more than 92 million on-demand streams.

However, fans shouldn't expect to see a cameo by Wallen in the music video. The clip was directed by Jason Lester and shows childhood home videos of Moroney cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to the personal footage, the video includes shots from different locations around Music City. Moroney, a Georgia graduate, wears the rival UT orange of the Tennessee Vols with an unseen man.

Song lyrics include: I met somebody and he's got blue eyes| He opens the door and he don't make me cry| He ain't from where we're from, but he feels like home, yeah| He's got me doin' things I've never done| In Georgia, they'd call it a sin| I'm wearin' Tennessee orange for him.

"I had so much fun making this video with Jason Lester," Moroney said. "I think we could have taken this video in a few different directions, and I was so excited to film it from 'his' point of view. This song is about more than a football team, and I think we captured the love story perfectly."

"Tennessee Orange" is from Moroney's debut EP, "Pistol Made Of Roses," which she released last summer. Since then, she has signed with Sony Music Nashville. And while much has been made of her potential connection to Wallen, it's another man from Tennessee who had the most to do with propelling Moroney to her spot at the top of the streaming charts.

The singer's ascent into the country music business began when she was a student at the University of Georgia. She signed on to intern with Sevierville, Tennessee, natives Kristian and Brandon Bush, who have a recording studio in Atlanta. Fans know Kristian Bush as one-half of Sugarland and met Brandon when he played with rock band Train. The men recognized Moroney's gifts stretched far beyond the studio and business office, and Kristian Bush produced her debut EP – and "Tennessee Orange."

"One of the things that stands out clearly when working with Megan is her complete grasp of the point of view she wants to communicate," Kristian Bush said. "It is baked into her songs, honestly who she is, and translates completely through her singing voice. Her particular recipe of female empowerment just appealed to me. If I was to draw a line from Dolly Parton to Sugarland and then keep it going, it would point to Megan Moroney. She's a powerful female story that is equal parts playful, powerful and dead honest."

With the success of her songs, Moroney spent time on the road in 2022 with artists including Larry Fleet, Jamey Johnson, and Warren Zeiders and will launch her headlining PISTOL MADE OF ROSES tour this spring. For dates and additional info, visit meganmoroney.com.
