Charles Wesley Godwin Announces "Family Ties" Album, Drops Four New Songs
Appalachian country folk singer Charles Wesley Godwin revealed plans for his third album “Family Ties” today that he plans to release Sept. 22 on Big Loud Records.
“I had to get back to the basics,” Godwin said in a statement. “I decided I was going to write about my life and my family. It’s where my heart was guiding me - to be super personal and dig right into the weeds of my life.”
Four new songs from the album came out today: “All Again,” “Family Ties,” “Cue Country Roads” and “West of Lonesome.”
The album is 19 songs deep, and each track is intensely personal to the singer who calls West Virginia home. Godwin penned several of the songs for specific members of his family. “Miner Imperfections” is for his father, while “The Flood” was inspired by his mother. “Gabriel” for his son. “Dance in Rain” is for his daughter, and “Willing and Able” is a love letter for his wife.
“All it was just a matter of time and continued grinding,” said Godwin, who is opening Zach Bryan’s arena tour in September, of his continued success. “To me, the live show has been the great equalizer. After COVID, we went out there and just played our asses off everywhere all the time, every week. The tour never stopped. And we just built it ear by ear. We were just making this thing grow organically by putting on such a good show with so much heart. Eventually, I got momentum back on my side and just kept on going.”
He said his shows cater to fans 18-to-80 years old, which is “a pretty unique thing.”
“There’s a lot more people at my shows, and they’re a lot more excited than ever before,” Godwin said. “I don’t feel like a fish out of water anymore. I had fun when it was just 100 people back in 2021. Now that it’s 10 or 20 times that, it’s just even better.”
