Kenny Chesney Tops List as Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood Reveal ACM Nominees

Rodney Atkins, Miranda Lambert, Big & Rich, Taylor Swift Receive Multiple Nominations

Kenny Chesney snagged mentions in seven categories to emerge as the top nominee for the 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood announced the nominations during a Tuesday morning (March 4) press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in downtown Nashville.

The contenders were revealed during a broadcast of The Early Show. The CBS news program also featured live performances by multiple nominees Rodney Atkins and Miranda Lambert, the ACM's reigning new male and new female vocalists. Others receiving two or more nominations this year include Paisley, Big & Rich, Emerson Drive, Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban.

Chesney's nominations includes another bid for entertainer of the year. If he's successful, it will be his fourth consecutive win the coveted prize. For the first time in ACM history, fans will choose the entertainer of the year winner. Fan voting begins May 5, and more details will be announced at a later date, according to the ACM.

Chesney is also nominated for top male vocalist and album, single, song and video of the year. Additionally, he and longtime friends Tracy Lawrence and Tim McGraw are nominated for vocal event of the year for "Find Out Who Your Friends Are," a hit single from Lawrence's For the Love album. Chesney and George Strait are also nominated in the vocal event category for their "Shiftwork."

Joining Chesney among the entertainer of the year nominees are Paisley, Rascal Flatts, George Strait and Keith Urban. Chesney, Atkins, Paisley, Strait and Urban are up for top male vocalist, and Lambert, Swift, Underwood, Martina McBride and Rimes are nominated for top female vocalist.
