Country Radio Broadcasters Honor Collin Raye

Collin Raye received the Country Radio Broadcasters' Artist Humanitarian Award during the opening session of Country Radio Seminar 2001 Thursday morning (March 1) at the Nashville Convention Center. Clint Black, last year's recipient, presented Raye with the award, citing the singer's contributions to Catholic Relief Services, the Tennessee Task Force on Domestic Violence, Special Olympics and other charities. Black also applauded the country star for raising over $100,000 for scholarships and community improvements in Raye's hometown of DeQueen, Ark. "Collin is one of the hardest working artists on behalf of charity in the business," Black said before handing Raye the award. "No one in the business works harder or cares more than Collin." Raye accepted the award on behalf of volunteers everywhere who work quietly behind the scenes. "The real heroes are the ones who never get any recognition and don't even aspire to that," Raye said. "They do it day after day after day. They are the ones who devote their whole life to it." The Country Radio Broadcasters also presented humanitarian awards to radio stations for their efforts to improve quality of life in the communities they serve. Cited were WPOC in Baltimore, Md. (large market), WIVK in Knoxville, Tenn. (medium market) and KGEE in Midland, Texas (small market).
