Reba McEntire's $60,000 Donation Helps Oklahoma School

Reba McEntire has donated $60,000 to a school in rural Spavinaw, Okla., that faced a severe budget gap. The school educates 130 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and had faced a 22 percent budget cut from the previous year. School board president Guy Alloway told the Tulsa World newspaper, "We were $60,000 in the hole." Alloway said he tried to contact the offices of several celebrities to solicit donations and called a phone number listed on McEntire's website. After several calls to confirm the dire situation, Alloway said a $60,000 check, as well as a $1,000 anonymous donation, arrived on Oct. 13. McEntire is an Oklahoma native.
