Emmylou Harris and instrumentalist Al Perkins will join Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Louvin during the Americana Music Conference for one of his first performances since undergoing cancer surgery in July. He has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His appearance takes place Sept. 10 at the Rutledge, a performance venue near downtown Nashville. Harris will sing "If I Could Only Win Your Love," a song written by Louvin and his late brother Ira. It was a Top 10 country hit for Harris in 1975. Perkins, best known for his work on steel guitar and Dobro, will perform "The Christian Life," another Louvin Brothers song that was covered by the Byrds on their 1968 album, Sweetheart of the Rodeo, while singer-songwriter Gram Parsons was a member of the band. Charlie Louvin credits Parsons, who died in 1973, for introducing Harris to the Louvin Brothers' music. Louvin appears on the recently-released album, Hickory Wind: Live at the Gram Parsons Guitar Pull -- Waycross GA. Perkins' extensive list of studio credits includes projects with Harris, along with Parsons' G.P. and Grievous Angel solo albums. The Louvin Brothers were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
