Virgin Closes; Hendricks Will Resume Producing

It's official. Virgin Records closed its Nashville office Monday (Feb. 12) after two and a half years of operation. All artists on Virgin's roster -- Chris Cagle, Clay Davidson, River Road, Roy D. Mercer and Tom Mabe -- moved to Capitol Records, which, like Virgin, is a subsidiary of EMI. A spokeswoman for Capitol says the label is discussing employment with some of Virgin's displaced staffers but that none have been formally hired yet. Scott Hendricks, founder, president and CEO of Virgin/Nashville, reports that he will resume producing. "I'm free to produce," he tells country.com. "I'm not at liberty to say what other opportunities are there. ... I produced the Clay Davidson record [Unconditional] that's out there and doing OK. I'm also working on a couple of acts I was intending [to sign] when Virgin was still open."
