CMT Premiere: Michael Warren Shows Fans What's Country to Him in New Video

Michael Warren's four-song EP "What's Country To You" was recorded in Nashville and reflects his love of Southern things.

Alabama native Michael Warren grew up near Birmingham, averaged more than 200 shows a year for almost a decade and spent time in Los Angeles writing songs for artists including Jennifer Lopez and Akon before his country roots called him home to the south. Now he splits his time between Nashville and Birmingham as he reconnects to his country roots that he sings about in his new song and video "What's Country to You."

Written by Dylan Schneider, Zac Kale, and Jake Rose and produced by Aaron Eshuis, "What's Country to You" is about what the title says – country is what the phrase means to you. The video, directed by Jonathan Pears and produced by Solar Cabin and Come Together Create, shows fans what country means to Warren.

"We started the day driving down Interstate 65 like I've done so many times over the years on tour and living between Nashville and Birmingham," Warren said. "When we showed up to the location at a friend of a friend's house 30 minutes north of Nashville, there were so many things I love about southern culture going on. There was a one-of-a-kind personally renovated double-wide trailer and a carport filled with barn finds and projects. There were old cars and buses scattered around the property and a pile of gasoline-soaked palettes ready to be lit."

Warren said friends showed up an hour later, and videographers started filming everyone cooking out.

"When I saw that footage, it felt fun and true to life, and I knew we were getting something special," he said. "It turned into a celebration of Saturday nights in Alabama and Tennessee. That's what I wanted this song to feel like, and the video visually tells that story so well."

He couldn't be happier with the result. Warren said the experience felt true-to-life and showed viewers what a slice of country means to him.

"Being with friends and family around a bonfire eating BBQ and playing music; celebrating being alive and (knowing) that everything is going to be ok," he said. "I hope people have fun watching this and feel nostalgia for nights they've had like this and excitement for nights like this that they will have."

Warren's four-song EP "What's Country To You" was recorded in Nashville and reflects his love of "Southern things," including faith, family, friends, Bass Pro Shop, football, barbecue, and hard work into songs that are as danceable in a honky tonk as on a Spring Break mix tape.
