Randy Owen Announces Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Randy Owen, longtime frontman for Alabama, underwent treatment earlier this year after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. He made the announcement Sunday (June 13) during his annual fan club party in Fort Payne, Ala. During a routine checkup, a blood test indicated abnormal levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA). After the diagnosis, Owen underwent an ultrasound procedure to treat the disease, and his doctors say the treatment was a success and his recovery is now almost complete. "Randy did everything right by having his PSA checked regularly ... and educating himself about his treatment options," said Dr. Ronald Wheeler. "He has set an example all men should follow to beat prostate cancer and live an excellent quality of life." Owen plans to spend the summer managing his cattle business in Fort Payne before resuming his tour schedule in September.
