Elle King Gives Health Update After Tragic Fall That Left Her Unconscious: “Doing A Lot Better”

Elle King’s lead single, “Tulsa” from her country debut album “Come Get Your Wife,” will arrive Friday, Jan. 6.

Country-rocker Elle King is back in action after taking a horrific tumble that left her unconscious.

In early December, the vocalist was forced to cancel a string of show dates in Tampa, Detroit, and Seattle. King was preparing a bottle for her toddler in the wee hours of the morning when she accidentally fell down a staircase. King suffered a concussion and amnesia.

The singer-songwriter tried to persevere following the incident but performing impacted her health.

“No one ever wants to pull out of shows, especially me. I live for performing,” King previously declared. “I slipped down the stairs making a bottle in the middle of the night, knocked my ass out, resulting in a concussion. I tried to push through and played 3 shows, but the travel, lights, all of it only exacerbated things,” she added.

In less than a month, King returned to the spotlight to perform and co-host CBS’ New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash. Although the “Ex’s & Oh’s” artist has resumed her jammed-packed schedule, she told Entertainment Tonight that her road to recovery is far from over.

“I can laugh now, because I’m doing a lot better. It was a very intense thing. They said I got amnesia and got a post-concussion syndrome,” said King to ET’s Rachel Smith. “A lot of PT…a lot of stretches, and a lot of, like, quiet downtime, which has never been my strong suit.”

When the accident occurred, King was home alone with her 1-year-old son, Lucky. After experiencing two heart-wrenching miscarriages, the songstress welcomed her first child with her fiancé, Dan Tooker in 2021.

She clarified that her miracle baby was not affected by the fall. Shortly after the incident, King said that members of the country community immediately rallied behind her and lent a helping hand.

“The baby is totally fine, and I’m doing a lot better,” said King. “What I love about Nashville is that community that I haven’t really had in any of the last multiple cities that I’ve lived in, even if I’ve had a bunch of friends. There’s  something beautiful about this city, and my friends and my music family, they all totally  gathered around me and were all so supportive and showed up for me and helped me with the baby.”

With a little help from her friends and rest, she had the energy to ring in the new year with country hitmaker Jimmie Allen. Several country A-listers were in attendance to kick off 2022 on the right foot.

“I  was literally having the time of my life when we were doing the countdown. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so excited,” she pointed out. “I love my voice -- I couldn’t talk for, like, two days afterwards because I was screaming that countdown. Just looking around and seeing Jimmie [Allen] and Kelsea [Ballerini] and Zac Brown – just kind of realizing this is my life, this is my home, it was such a crazy opportunity.”

The genre has received a small taste of King’s country side as her ear-grabbing grit is on full display in the award-winning track  “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” with Miranda Lambert and “Worth A Shot” featuring Dierks Bentley. King is gearing up to lean completely in with her forthcoming country debut album, “Come Get Your Wife.”

The Ross Copperman-produced album will arrive on Jan. 27. King penned the 12-song collection alongside critically acclaimed songsmiths Shane McAnally, Ashley Gorley, Ella Langley, Jesse Frasure, and more. Before fans can get their hands on the full-length record – King is set to release “Tulsa,” the lead single containing Ashley McBryde and John Osborne, on Friday, Jan. 6.
